Flavor King Pluot


One of the earliest plum and apricot hybrids, the Flavor King pluots are also relatively common at farmers markets in the area. There is nothing common about these pluots grown by my friend Andy Mariani, however. They are what the other pluots want to be when they grow up. 

Sweet, juicy, plummy, with a good amount of acidity and just a hint of bitterness under the skin, these pluots make one fabulous jam. The judges at this year's Good Food Awards agreed with me, having selected this jam as a finalist in the prestigious 2013 awards. So, keep you fingers crossed for me while you eat this jam on your morning toast, would you? I'll find out in January if I win!
